Secondary Control
• -- Air flow control system is to protect
against
• -- Stall ( Loss or partial inflow of Air )
• -- Surge (Reversal of mass flow)
• -- The system consist of
• VIGV (Variable incidence guide vanes)
• 4th and 7th stage Bleed valves
VIGV
• This system is is to keep the optimum
angle of incidence of the air flow in to the
compressor as per RPM of GG
• Variation ( 35 deg to -10 deg)
• At low rpm , less mass of air is required for
the compressor
• Higher mass at lower rpm may lead to
reversal of mass flow
BLEED VALVE
• Bleed valves are designed to aid the
correct air flow through the compressor at
low engine speed
• The excess pressure is released by the 4th
and 7th stage bleed valves at low load
• The compressor is designed to deliver
optimum efficiency at its design point i.e.
base load

BV Ram
• BV are almost identical and can be
interchanged after repositioning the blanks
and connections.
• Each valve carries 6 carbon plates.

Closing / Opening of 7th and 4th stage bleed

Splitter Adjustment
Very Sensitive
Why?
• More anti-clockwise rotation.
• Operating rpm of VIGV and bleed valve
high.
• Less mass flow.
• Loss of power, high rotational speed.
Contd
• More clockwise rotation
• Operating rpm for VIGV and Bleed valve
less.
• At low rpm, less mass of air is required for
compressor.
• Higher mass at low rpm may lead to
reversal of mass flow.
