Global Climate

Change and Greenhouse

effect
Climate Change
 is a significant and lasting change in the statistical distribution
of weather patterns over periods ranging from decades to millions
of years.

Certain human activities have also been identified as significant

causes of recent climate change, often referred to as "global
warming"
Greenhouse Effect

Regulate our climate by trapping heat and

holding it in a kind of warm air blanket that
surrounds the planet.
Without it our average temperature is
would be colder that 52 degrees
Fahrenheit
Greenhouse Gases
1. Carbon Dioxide CO2
2. Methane CH4
3. Nitrous Oxide N2O
4. Water Vapor H2O
Greenhouse Gases
GHGs
A. Carbon Dioxide CO2
1. Respiration
2. Volcanic activities from natural resources

3. Combustion of fuels
4. Deforestation and conversion of
farmlands to industrial and residential
lands have removed much vegetative
cover that could absorb CO2
B. Methane CH4
absorbs more heat and is 25 times more
effective as greenhouse gas than CO2.
1. Agricultural activities produced much
2. Livestock production CH4
C. Nitrous Oxide N2O
that stays longer in the troposphere and
absorbs heat 360 times better than CO2.
1. Agriculture (through the use of fertilizers and
the decay of manure from poultry and
livestock.)
2. Burning fossil fuels
D. Water Vapor H2O
Is the most important greenhouse gas
The source of evaporation.
