DIGITAL CAMERA: IT’S VALIDITY TO

CRIME SOLUTION

Real , Lester James Sales, Renna Beth C.

C.
RATIONALE
The current study aimed to investigate the
validity of digital cameras to crime solutions in Tubod
Police Station, Lanao del Norte for the year 2017-
2018. As future criminologist, the researchers will be
able to implicate to their future field the use of digital
camera and on how to accurately photograph as
evidence to crime solution.

• Values of Photography by Ogle (2004)

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
1. What is the most and least frequently used digital
camera in crime investigation:
1.1 Cellphone camera,
1.2 Digital SLR camera,
1.3 Body Camera, and
1.4 Web Camera?
2. What extent is the validity of digital camera in crime
investigation in terms of:
2.1 Cellphone camera,
2.2 Digital SLR camera,
2.3 Body Camera, and
2.4 Web Camera?
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
3. Is there a significant difference between the validity of
digital camera in crime investigation in terms of Cellphone
camera, Digital SLR camera, Body Camera, and Web
Camera?
4. Based on the findings, what implications can be
developed?
Hypothesis
• Ho1: There is no significant difference between the validity
of digital camera in crime investigation in terms of
Cellphone camera, Digital SLR camera, Body Camera,
and Web Camera?

RESEARCH DESIGN
• descriptive survey research design
STATISTICAL TREATMENT
• Mean. This was used to know extent of validity of digital
cameras to crime solution and the mean of use of digital
cameras. This helped answer the problem 1 and 2 of the
study.
• Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This was used to
determine the significant difference between the validity of
digital cameras to crime solution in terms of cellphone
camera, digital SLR camera, body camera, and web
camera. This helped answer the research problem 3.
FINDINGS
• The digital SLR camera is the most frequently used in
crime investigation while the web camera is considered as
the least frequently used in crime investigation (cf. Table
1).

• The digital SLR cameras have the highest mean of 3.75

interpreted as ‘very high’. This was followed by cellphone
cameras which have a mean of 3.13 interpreted as ‘high’.
Next, the body camera gained a mean of 2.66 interpreted
as ‘high’. The lowest mean of 2.28 was gained by web
camera interpreted as ‘low’ (cf. Table 6).
FINDINGS
• There is significant difference among the validity of digital
camera in crime investigation in terms of Cellphone
camera, digital SLR camera, body camera, and web
camera (cf. Table 7).

• The implications of the study are to facilitate digital

evidence in crime investigation with the use of digital
cameras.
Conclusions
• Based on the results, digital SLR camera was commonly
used in crime investigation. In contrast, web camera was
the least commonly used in crime investigation. The
discussions emphasized that digital SLR camera produce
better image. However, the evidential value of the digital
evidence produced by the digital cameras would be based
on the ethical practices on capturing the image by the
photographers. The theories and principles that supported
that the values of photography thus relating to digital
photography captured by a digital camera.
