Please answer all the questions.

1. Give THREE examples of an FEED FORWARD

control loop and THREE examples for
FEDBACK control loop system.
FEED FORWARD FED BACK
2. An output variable is the quantity to be
controlled that is of concern to the user. Give
ONE example of output variables for the
following;
System/Equipment: Output variable:

Toilet water tank

Factory- Milk production

Iron
3. An input variable is the quantity to be
controlled that is of concern to the user. Give
ONE example of input variables for the
following;
System/ equipment: Input variable:

Washing machine

Boiler

Mixing tank
Fill in the blanks with an appropriate and suitable
answer that related to the topic you have learnt in
Lecture 1

Control systems are used to maintain ------ (a) ------ conditions

at their desired values by manipulating certain process ----b) --
of interest. Common example is the home heater. The control
system on the hot water heater attempts to maintain the --(c)
---- in the tank at the desired value. Desired value also knows
as ------ (d)----- or ------ (e)-------- .
The controller takes appropriates action by sending a
signal to the ------ (f) ------, which provides an input to
the process to return the controlled variables to the
set point. Closed- loop also called as ------ (g) -----
control, which the information about the system is
“fed back” to a controller.
In contrast, an ----- (h) ----- -loop system is sometimes
said to be in manual mode as opposed to automatic
mode. The measurement signal is disconnected from
the controller and the controller output would have
to be manually adjusted to change the value of the
controlled variables. For the same home heater,
thermocouple is one of the examples for --- (i) ----- .
Validate whether the statements (i) to (v) below are
TRUE or FALSE
a) The input signal gives information about the system
behavior.
• Ans: ____________

b) When we consider a domestic oven, it is one of the

open-loop control systems.

c) The block diagram of two systems in series can be

converted as shown in figure below
