Both programs can use the same open instance of RSLinx at the

MicroLogix 1500/1200/1100/1000 family of Programmable
Logic Controllers.
RSLogix 5000 is used with the new generation of
"ControlLogix" Programmable Automation Controllers.
RSLogix 500 is actually ladder only and utilizes register
according to memory addressing.
