OVERVIEW OF PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY
 The Indian pharmaceutical industry is a success story
providing employment for millions and ensuring that essential
drugs at affordable prices are available to the vast population
of this sub-continent.

 It ranks 4th in the world, pertaining to the volume of sales.

 A highly organized sector - estimated to be of worth $ 4.5


billion, growing at about 8 to 9 % annually ($ 20 b in 2015).

 The pharmaceutical industry in India meets around 70% of the


country's demand & export is around 40%.
 About 250 large units & 8000 Small Scale Units.

 Indigenously Producing bulk drugs, pharmaceutical


formulations, chemicals, tablets, capsules, orals & injectibles.

 With the increase in the medical infrastructure, the health


services would be transformed and it would help the growth of
the Pharma industry further.

 The large concentration of multi national pharmaceutical


companies in India makes it easy to attract foreign direct
investments.
FUTURE PROSPECTS
 The Indian Government's policy of allowing 100 percent
foreign direct investment into the drugs and pharmaceutical
industries helps in the growth of contract research in the
country.

 More investment to be done in R & D.

 Indian companies such as Ranbaxy, Sun Pharma, and Dr.


Reddy's are increasingly focusing on tapping the U.S.
generic market.

 The Indian pharmaceutical industry started to utilize the


recent advancements in biotechnology and information
technology.

 Biocon was founded on November 29, 1978 as
a joint venture between an Ireland based
company & an Indian entrepreneur, Kiran
Mazumdar Shaw.

 Mrs. Shaw is the Chairman & Managing


Director.

  she is the First generation entrepreneur


with more than 29 years experience in
biotechnology and industrial enzymes.

  she was honored with Padmabhushan for her


pioneering efforts in Biotechnology, 2005.

easy thing I have to put maximum effort for that.
 As a Post Graduate in Management it will be possible
for me to enter as a part of Marketing division of
Biocon.

products in Domestic as well as on International
Level.
 New product development.
 Managing International and Domestic business.
 Product Registration and approval of products in
various countries.
 ‘Management Information System’ management.
