AND GLOBAL WARMING
WARM UP
• Copy the following image
into your journal and fill in
the blanks
• Hint: look where the
arrows are pointing (what
goes into photosynthesis,
what comes out, etc.)

IMPORTANT GASES #1: CO2
• Go to the following website: https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/carbon-dioxide/
• Read the text, analyze the graphs, and answer the following questions:
1. What are four ways through which CO2 can be released to the air?
2. What conclusion can you draw from the first graph “DIRECT MEASUREMENTS: 2005-
PRESENT” about the amount of CO2 in the air over time?
3. What conclusion can you draw from the first graph “PROXY (INDIRECT)
MEASUREMENTS” about the historical trend of CO2 levels in the atmosphere? (in
other words, what normally happens with CO2 levels over thousands and
thousands of years?)
4. What conclusion can you draw from the first graph “PROXY (INDIRECT)
MEASUREMENTS” about the CHANGE in the historical trend of CO2 levels in the
atmosphere? (in other words, what is the difference between what normally
happens with CO2 levels and what is happening now?)
IMPORTANT GASES: METHANE
• Go to the following website: https://www.epa.gov/ghgemissions/overview-
greenhouse-gases then click on the “methane” tab
• Read the text, analyze the graphs, and answer the following questions:
