Template
 Template method pattern, an object-oriented design pattern.
 Template processor, a system that combines a template with data to produce an
output.
 Template (word processing), a standard document containing layout and styles used
to configure word processing software.
 Eg: Template (C++), a tool for generic programming especially in the C++ language
 Template metaprogramming, a programming technique used by a compiler to
generate temporary source code
 Template method pattern, an object-oriented design pattern
 Template processor, a system that combines a template with data to produce an

 Template (word processing), a standard document containing layout and styles used
to configure word processing software
 Style sheet (web development), or master page on which you can globally edit and
format graphic elements and text common to each page of a document
 Web template, a master page used to produce web pages
Block Diagramming
 A block diagram is a diagram of a system in which the
principal parts or functions are represented by blocks
connected by lines that show the relationships of the
blocks. They are heavily used in engineering in hardware
design, electronic design, software design, and process
flow diagrams.
Operations Sequence Analysis
 Operations sequence analysis is used to develop a good
scheme for arrangement of departments graphically and
analyzing the layout problem.
 It required an existing or proposed arrangement of
department and a projection of the traffic or flow that will
take place between one department and each of the other
department during some time period.
Line Balancing
 A production line is a set of sequential operations
established in a factory where materials are put through a
refining process to produce an end-product that is suitable
for onward consumption; or components are assembled to
make a finished article.
Eg :
Use of Computers
 Computer aided layout planning(CLAP)
Eg : there are three methods
1. Preparation Phase
2. Specification Phase
3. Analysis Phase
 Automated layout design programme (ALDEP)
1. Here the closeness relationship between two department is
used to build up layout.
 Computerized relationship layout planning(CORELAP)
1. Generate a layout on the basis of Total Closeness Rating for
each department.
 Computerized relative allocation of facilities technique
(CRAFT)
1. Difficulty can be alleviated due to the availability of
computer software packages such as the CRAFT

Product Design
Definition :
According to C.S.Deverell, “product design in its
broadest sence includes the whole development of the
product through all the preliminary stages until actual
manufacturing begins.
Influence factors of product design
1. Customers perspectives
 Function
 Aesthetics
 User friendliness
 Esteem associated with possession
2. Organizational perspectives
 Intrinsic cost of material
 Intrinsic cost of labor
 Replacement , exchange, and Disposal.
Issues in Product Design

1.Legal issues in product design

 Product liability
 Intellectual property
2.Ethical issues in product design
 Assessing the impact of the design on consumer
 Protection of intellectual property
 Privacy
 Exposure to the undesirable
 Advertising of designs
 Right to alter natural order
 Whether design should be tested on animals and human
 Sustainable technology
3.Environmental issues in product design
 Greenhouse effect or global warming
 Ozone layer
 Tropical deforestation
 Waste
 Water pollution
 Resource consumption
