Counselling

• The process of assisting and guiding clients, especially by a trained person on a professional
basis, to resolve especially personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties.
Why Post Abortion Counselling ?

• This experience has the potential to affect the person on a psychological effect.

• The counselling process can also provide you with the tools you need to better cope with any
residual negative feelings.

• In this session the focus is on developing your skills to improve counselling with women who
have experienced an abortion, and to respond to the information needs of these women.
Research To Know The Effectiveness Of Post
Abortion Counselling
• Objective - To estimate the contraceptive use rate, pregnancy and abortion rate two years after post abortion
counselling.
• Participants – 221 women
• Place – Recife, Northeast of Brazil
• Methods- i. Personalized Post-abortion Contraceptive Counselling (118)
ii. Standardized Contraceptive Counselling Group (103)
• Analyzable Variables – i. Use of contraceptive methods.
ii. Reasons for not using.
iii. Satisfaction of used method.
iv. Occurrence of pregnancy and abortion
Results

• Pregnancy rate in personalized counselling group was lower.


• Contraceptive counselling services must be followed and monitored in regular intervals.
• Usage of injectable contraceptives in personalized group was higher.
Conclusion

• Post abortion counselling be promoted in developed as well as developing nations.


• Information and awareness regarding contraceptives must be given
• These type of counselling must also be given to each and every person and must be included in
the education system as well as in the organisation.
