THAT THEY COME TO SCHOOL LABELED
HOMEWORK
What does it entail?
Your child should spend up to 30 minutes each school night doing school
related work. In addition to this, a further 15 minutes of this time should be
spent reading. Of course, 15 minutes of reading is only the minimum required
time.

Spelling words will be brought home at the beginning of most weeks and
should be practised through the week at home in preparation for an
assessment on Friday. Math and Literacy review items will be sent home at
the same time and will also need to return on Friday. This weekly package is
designed to reinforce what has already been taught in class.

Inquiry based projects will be centred around our Social Studies and Science
programs and occur once or twice in a unit of study. Some of this kind of
homework may involve research at home.
Our homework book is primarily a communication tool. If you have any
concerns or communications that you would like to share with us, please write
it in here. More urgent communication should be done by email.
• Please do not stop
reading to your child
even if they can
read on their own

• Try to oversee that

your child has put all
their homework into
their backpack the
night before it is
due, so that it is
always handed in on
time
If you give a person a fish, they eat for a
day. If you teach a person to fish, they
eat for a lifetime….
How You Can Help Your
Child
• Set up a quiet, distraction free
area for your child to do their
homework

• Reading is an important part of

your child’s homework, so
please ensure that they read
EVERY night

• 15 minutes minimum per night

How You Can
Help Us
Please get in touch with us if or when:

• Your child spends more than the suggested time on his or her
homework

• Your child does not understand the requirements of the

homework

• You need to give us a “heads up!” if your child is upset or

struggling with the work load.
Concerns?
• Pro-activity is essential: Constant, direct
communication is the key.
• With children as the conduit of information, the
message can become garbled - like the old game of
telephone.
• Positivity: If we focus on the solution rather than
the problem we will make greater progress.
• Please come see the teacher first if you have a
concern or question.
