2. Using a question-and-and answer format, Paul records the most

systematic presentation of doctrine in the Bible.

3. Romans is more than a book of theology, it is also a book of

practical exhortation ெற் புறுத்துதல் .

4. The good news of Jesus Christ is more than facts to be believed,

it is also a life to be lived.

Why is Romans so important?

The letter to the Romans stands as the clearest and most systematic presentation of
Christian doctrine in all the Scriptures.
Paul began by discussing that which is most easily observable in the world—the
sinfulness of all humanity.
All people have been condemned due to our rebellion against God. However, God in
His grace offers us justification by faith in His Son, Jesus.
When we are justified by God, we receive redemption, or salvation, because Christ’s
blood covers our sin. But Paul made it clear that the believer’s pursuit of God doesn’t
stop with salvation; it continues as each of us is sanctified—made holy—as we persist
in following Him.
Paul’s treatment of these issues offers a logical and complete presentation of how a
person can be saved from the penalty and power of his or her sin.

THE CHURCH IN ROME

1. Paul did not establish the congregation in Rome, and the tradition
that Peter was its founder is contrary to the evidence.
2. It is possible that it was begun by some of the Jews and proselytes
to Judaism who became Christians on the Day of Pentecost in
Jerusalem before returning to Rome (Acts 2:10)
3. Also, Christians from congregations established by Paul in Asia,
Macedonia, and Greece settled in Rome and led others to Christ.
4. According to this epistle, Gentiles were predominant in the church
at Rome. (1:13; 11:13, 28, 31; 15:15-16).
5. There were also Jews in the church at Rome (2:17 - 3:8; 3:21- 4:1;
7:1-14; 14:1 - 15:12).

6. According to Romans 1:8, the church of Rome was well known

elsewhere.
7. According to Romans 15:23, the church there had been established
for several years.
8. Thus, the believers were probably numerous and met in several
places (16:1-16).
9. The historian Tacitus referred to the Christians who were persecuted
under Nero in A.D. 64 as “an immense multitude.”
10. The gospel filled the gap left by the practically defunct polytheism
வேயலற் று சபான பல வதய் ெ ெணக்கங் கள் of Roman religion.
11. Key words such as righteousness, faith, law, all, and sin each appear
at least sixty times in this epistle.
