BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Name: Dee-Dee.
Age: 18 Years old.
Classification: Freshman
Her father is a stranger to her.
Her mother was a drug dealer, and spent her life in and out of jail.
She was raised in a single parent foster home.
Struggles with depression, and alcohol abuse.
 BIASES YOU HAD GOING INTO THE INTERVIEW?

 None really.
I did assume that she would come in at least smelling like alcohol, because she did
say that she had been in somewhat of a bad mood earlier in the week when I seen
her, but I was wrong.

Talk to student about what's causing her to become
depressed, and find out is the alcohol causing her to
be depressed or is the depression causing her to
drink

 WHAT DOES RESEARCH SAY ON THEIR
DIAGNOSIS/PROBLEM/TREATMENT?
Studies show that nearly a third of people with
depression also have problems with alcohol
Researchers have found that patients with dual
diagnosis have a lower rate of completing formal
treatment and attending follow-up sessions
There are two primary reasons alcohol misuse can lead
to depression:
 The first is psychosocial—if a person has problems with alcohol,
it can lead to further problems in life.
The second reason is biological. Although drinking alcohol initially
can feel stimulating, alcohol is a depressant, which means it lowers
the function of neurotransmitters in the central nervous system
