ROAD RAGE

What do you understand by Road Rage?


• Road rage is a term that describes violent behavior on road.

• It can also be described as an extremely aggressive way of driving that


is likely to cause accidents or incidence on road.
As said by Dr. Manmohan Singh
• On a serious note……
• Building good roads and driving modern cars is not the end-all and
be-all of progress. Road manners and adherence to traffic discipline
are equally important”.
• “We must ask ourselves - Why can't we be more polite to each other,
more caring and respectful of each other”.
• “ We Indians behave with great courtesy at home and with our family
and friends. But when we go out we leave these good manners. On
the road, we lose control of our good senses.
What causes Road Rage
Several factors lead to road rage.
Carelessness - Careless drivers often make mistakes that could upset
someone.
Recklessness- Reckless drivers feel that they can get away with
anything without being caught.
Temper - More than 80% of drivers are angry while driving. They lose
their sense of judgment & values .
Forms of Road Rage
• Aggressive acceleration .
• Weaving in and out of traffic,
• Excessive honking .
• Flashing lights excessively.
• Making rude gestures .
• Shouting verbal abuse .
• Hitting another person.
• Throwing objects outside the vehicle.
• Tailgating.
How to avoid Road Rage
• Be Courteous:
While not all drivers will be as courteous, your efforts will go a long
way in protecting yourself.
Do not Tailgate
• Do not Tailgate Tailgating makes the driver in front nervous and gives
one less time to react if the vehicle in front slows down or brakes
suddenly.
• The correct behavior – Keep a safe following distance.
• Do not harass the vehicle in front by tailgating.
Do not Road Hog
• Road hogs hold up traffic and frustrates other motorists .
• Don’t be distracted by what is happening on the other side of the
road. Pay attention to the road ahead.
• Always give way by keeping to the left unless overtaking, especially
on expressways.
Forgive and Forget
• Raise your hand to apologise when you make a mistake.
• If the other party apologises, show your acceptance by
acknowledging his/her gesture.
. Be Patient
• Never lose your “COOL” on the road.
• Avoid provocative gesture and language when others cause you
inconvenience.
• Avoid direct confrontation.
• Plan your journey and leave early to avoid rushing.
Honk only when required
• Horn to warn others of the danger ahead.
• Honking unnecessarily may alarm or anger other road users into
making unpredictable moves which may lead to accidents.
