PURPOSE OF PROPHETISM
1.To maintain the fidelity to the
covenant.
2.God called the prophets to
warn the people about critical
religious crisis.
PROPHETS
• Derived from greek word “prophetes”
• One who speaks in behalf of god and
acts as god’s spokesman.
• Prophets were called “men of God,”
seers (1sam 9:9, 11,19).
PROPHETS
• Inspired men and women who were
recognized as under the protection of
Yahweh (Gn 20:17; Nm 12:2-8; Ex 15:13)
• Preached dramatically on subjects of
fundamental religious importance at times
of religious crisis.
PROPHETS
Primary concern of the
Prophets was the people’s
fidelity to the covenant.
They denounce- idolatry and
externalism in worship.
