An incised wound is a clean cut through tissues that is longer than it is deep, caused by a sharp object like a knife, razor, or scissors. It has well-defined, everted margins and a spindle shape. Chop wounds are deep, gaping wounds caused by a heavy weapon like an axe and have dimensions corresponding to the weapon's cross-section. Both wound types are important in legal cases to determine the weapon, direction of force, and age of injury. Chop wounds specifically indicate grievous or homicidal injury.

DEFINITION- An incised wound (i.e a cut, a slash or a
slice) is a clean cut through the tissues, which is longer than it is deep. MECHANISM OF PRODUCTION It is a spindle shaped wound produced by the pressure and friction against the tissue by an object having a sharp-cutting edge such as knife, razor, scalpel, scissors, sickle, glass, etc. The force is applied over a very narrow area, corresponding to the cutting edge of the blade. The margins are clean-cut, well defined and usually everted. The depth of the wound does not show tissue bridges. TYPES Incised wound Chop wounds Hesitation cuts MEDICOLEGAL IMPORTANCE Incised wounds are mostly suicidal or homicidal and rarely accidental. They indicate the nature of the weapon. They give an idea about the site of impact and the direction of force The age of the injury can be determined. CHOP WOUNDS
DEFINITION- These are deep gaping wounds caused by
a blow with the sharp cutting edge of a fairly heavy weapon like an axe, sword, etc. MECHANISM OF PRODUCTION The lower end of the weapon strikes the surface first which produces a deeper wound than the upper end wound. The deeper end indicate the position of the assaulter. If the extremities are attacked there may be complete or incomplete amputation of the fingers or other bones. Wound of the head and trunk are usually fatal. The dimensions of the wound correspond to cross section of penetrating portion of blade. MEDICOLEGAL IMPORTANCE They indicate grievous injury They indicate homicidal injury THANK YOU!
