The following are the types of rafters

• Principal rafter

Types of pitched roofs

Pitched roofs are mainly classified into three


categories.

1. Single roofs (suitable for spans up to of 4.8m),

2. Double or purlin roofs (suitable for spans more than 5.5m)


and

3. Trussed roofs (suitable for spans above 4.8m).

Single roofs.

Single roofs are further divided into following


categories.

a. Lean-to roof (suitable for spans up to of 2.4m),

a. Couple roof (suitable for spans up to 3.6m),

b. Couple-close roof (suitable for spans up to 4.2m),and

c. Collar beam roof (suitable for spans up to of 4.8m).
