What is Ephedrine?
❏ Comes from a chinese shrub-Ephedra. (Britannica, 1998)
❏ Used for medicinal purposes
❏ Discovered by Nagai in 1885 to be the pure alkaloid that we know
❏ As a supplement, it was used for weight loss, increasing energy level, or
performance enhancing. (Ephedra, 2016)
❏ FDA banned the use of ephedrine in supplements (“Guidance for Industry”,
2017)
❏ Today it is used for bronchodilators and decongestants (Britannica, 1998)
