Electricity and

magnetism

By Javier
What is electricity?
Electrical charges
Electricity begins with the
smallest particle in matter, Electron
called the atom. Atoms are
made up of protons and
neutrons inside a nucleus
and electrons moving around
outside the nucleus. Protons
have positive clectric charge
and electrons have negative
electric charge. When there’s
the same number of Neutron
electrons and protons it is
electrically neutral. Protron
Types of electricity
 There are two types of electricity:
 -Static electricity
 -Current electricity
Static electricity
 Static electricity is a form of
electricity that doesn’t flow.
Electrical storm is an example of
static electricity
Current electricity
 Current electricity is the movement
of electrons from one object to
another creates electrical current.
Electrical current can be produced
and transported in a closed elctrical
circuit
Electrical circuit
Switch: it opens and
closes the circuit

- Wires: they
conduct energy

Power source: it
provides energy

Resistor: it change electricity

to different forms of energy
Magnetism
 A magnet is an object which can
attract certain types of metal. The
ability to attract magnetic materials
is called magnetism
Magnets
 Magnets can be natural or
man-made. The mineral magnetite is
a natural magnet, but most of the
magnets are man-made
Types of magnets
 Permanent magnets: never lose their
magnetism
 Temporary magnets: they have
temporary magnetic force
Poles
All magnets have to poles, north and
south
 If you place two magnets with the
opposite poles together, they will
attract
 If you place two magnets with the
same poles together, they will repel
What’s magnetic field?
Is the area around a magnet. We can’t
see the field, but we can use iron
filings
Electromagnets
Are objects that act like magnets
when an electrical current passes
through them
