Analysis of cavitation

problem in centrifugal pump

ABSTRACT:
 The cavitation erosion remains an industrial issue for many
applications, mainly for hydraulic machines. This deals with the
cavitation intensity, which can be described as the fluid mechanical
loading causing cavitation damage.
 The estimation of this intensity is a challenging problem both in terms
of modelling the cavitation flow and predicting the erosion due to
cavitation. For this purpose, a methodology was proposed to estimate
cavitation intensity from 3D unsteady cavitation flow simulations(fluent
flow CFX). A cavitation intensity prediction model was developed
based on vapour pressure. Experiments are also conducted to validate
the computer simulations.
INTRODUCTION:
 CAVITATION:
Cavitation is the formation of
vapour cavities in a liquid, small
liquid-free zones ("bubbles" or
"voids"), that are the consequence
of forces acting upon the liquid. It
usually occurs when a liquid is
subjected to rapid changes
of pressure that cause the formation
of cavities in the liquid where the
pressure is relatively low. When
subjected to higher pressure, the
voids implode and can generate an
intense shock wave.

 On analysing the different pressure and velocities from inlet, the pressure
concentration portion can be identified.
 On experiment with this values the cavitation problem can be identified on
