Component 3
A Level Media Studies
Cross-Media Production
• Apply their knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework to the creation of media
forms and products.
Component 3: Key Features
• Create individual media production work for an intended audience, applying knowledge and
understanding of:
• media language
• representations
• audiences
• media industries.
• Statement of Aims & Intentions to explain how the you intend to respond to the brief, apply
knowledge and understanding of the theoretical framework and target the intended audience.
Component 3: A Level
• Briefs will be released annually by Eduqas, requiring learners to create a specific production for a
different industry context and intended audience.
• Eduqas will stipulate the industry and audience contexts, and specific key requirements to be
included in the production.
• Learners will develop a response to their chosen brief and create a production for the the specified
industry context and intended audience.
The following forms will always be set:
Advertising & Marketing A cross-media production: a print marketing campaign for a new film, and
(Film) * related audio-visual or online products.
Advertising & Marketing A cross-media production: an original music video for a new artist or band
(Music) and related print or online products.
* Film production work must not include a complete short film, film sequence or trailer.
Key Requirements for Component 3
• Individual production: the learner may use unassessed students and others:
• to appear in their media products e.g. as actors or models or to operate equipment, e.g.
lighting or sound recording equipment, under the direction of the assessed learner.
Component 3 is internally assessed and externally moderated. The total number of marks available is 60:
• 20 marks for creating a media product that meets the requirements of the set brief, including suitability
for the specified form, industry and audience.
• 30 marks for creating a media product which uses media language to communicate meanings and
construct representations.
Learners who do not submit a production will be awarded zero marks for the statement of aims.

Media Production Briefs
Select ONE brief from the following four options. You must complete Task 1 and Task 2: Option
(a) or (b) for your chosen brief.
Task 1: Audio-Visual Create a sequence from one of the following points in the
narrative/structure of your new television programme: a key turning point, a point of
significant conflict, a resolution. Length: 2 minutes 30 seconds - 3 minutes.
BRIEF 2: Magazines A cross-media production for a new monthly lifestyle magazine in a genre
(or sub-genre) of your choice.
Task 1: Print Create two original front covers and a double page feature article for your
new magazine. The front covers should be for different editions of the same magazine,
for example a summer and winter edition. Length: 4 pages.
BRIEF 3: Film Marketing A cross-media production to market and promote a new film in a genre
(or subgenre/hybrid) of your choice. Create print marketing materials for a new film and
associated audio/audiovisual or online material to promote the same film.
Task 1: Print Create a DVD or Blu-ray front and back cover and two posters for
theatrical release in different countries promote your new film.
BRIEF 4: Music Marketing A cross-media production for a new artist or band in a genre (or
subgenre/hybrid) of your choice. Create an original music video and associated print or online
material to promote the same artist or band.
Task 1: Audio-Visual Create an original music video to promote your new artist or band.
Length: 3 - 3 ½ minutes. Longer tracks may be edited or faded out to meet the required
length. You may use an existing song for your music video (this does not need to be
copyright-free), but the song must not have an existing official music video.
