BILL CLINTON
• Presidency: from January 20, 1993
to January 20, 2001
• During his presidency 4 wars
were started
• These wars were generally started by his actions
during his presidency but didn’t actually start until
later
IRAQ (2003 – 2011)
• The first attack on Iraq happened during Clinton’s
presidency
• June 26th 1993:
first bombing of
Baghdad – reason:
as punishment
for the attempt
to kill George Bush
• Second bombing occurred in 1996 and the third
one was in 1998
• This was the end of Clinton’s involvement in
Iraq bombings
• The war officially started in 2003; during
George Bush’s presidency
BOSNIA (1992-1995)
• During the war between Serbs, Croats and Muslims Clinton
intertwined
• 1994 and 1995: two
bombings happened
in Sarajevo – as help
Clinton sent troops to
attack Serbs
• Clinton later sent 20,000
U.S. troops to Bosnia to
join NATO “peacekeepers
SERBIA (1994)
• Clinton started a war in Serbia in order to stop their
president Slobodan Milosevic’s terror
• March 24th 1999:
4 years later attack on
Serbia began and lasted
11 weeks
• Reason: Bill Clinton
said they were to stop
mass killings in Kosovo
AFGHANISTAN & SUDAN
(2001–2014)
• August 20th 1998: bombed Afghanistan and the Sudan
• During the Clinton’s
presidency, the U.S. tended
to favor Pakistan and until
1998–1999 had no clear
opinion of Afghanistan
• It soon came out that one of his supposed terrorist
targets was the Sudan’snonly medicinal factory
• The war officially started in 2001; during George
Bush’s presidency and after the September 11th
attacks
• Clinton claimed he was fighting “terrorists”
