What is a direct object?
A direct object is the
noun or pronoun that
receives the action of
the transitive verb.

verbs that do not have an
object receiving the action
or direct object to complete
their meaning.

Application
Directions: Identify the basic sentence
pattern used in each of the following
sentences. Encircle the subject, and
underline the verb. Identify if the verb is
transitive or intransitive. Then, if there’s a
direct object, box it. Label the parts
accordingly.

Construct 5 sentences using the S-TV-
DO and S-IV sentence pattern and write it on
a one half sheet of paper crosswise. After
two minutes, get a partner and exchange
your work with your partner. You need to
identify what basic sentence pattern did
your partners used in their sentences. Kindly
encircle the subject, underline the verb used
and identify if it is transitive or intransitive,
and box the direct object if there is any.
Label the parts accordingly.

Write 3 sentences using the S-IV
pattern and two sentences using the S-
TV-DO pattern. Encircle the subject
and label it S. Then underline the verb
that you used and identify if it is
intransitive or transitive. Label the
parts accordingly. Write the sentences
on a one half sheet of paper crosswise.
