Abstract
 Inthis project, practical design of high
performance couplers and filters are
presented
 The designed couplers and filters play a
major role in complex radar phased array
antenna system
 Important in many real world applications

Coupler Design
 Rat Race and Branch Line microstrip couplers
are designed using ADS software tool
 Rat Race coupler is used in the system to
combine channels (antennas outputs) to
create sum and difference patterns
 Branch Line coupler will be used to split the
LO in half so that it can be used for down
conversion and create an in-phase (I) and
quadrature (Q) channel for further
processing.

LO
Filter
 In electronics, a local oscillator (LO) is an electronic oscillator used with a
mixer to change the frequency of a signal. This frequency conversion
process, also called heterodyning, produces the sum and difference
frequencies from the frequency of the local oscillator and frequency of
the input signal.

Low Pass Filter Design
Filter specifications:
 Center frequency = 1.75 GHz
 Attenuation at 3.05 GHz at least 30dB

Filter Design implemented: Stepped Impedance Low

Pass Filter using 0.5 dB ripple filter with N=7
 Easy to implement
 Alternating sections of very high and very low
characteristic impedance lines
 Popular- less space than using stubs
 Applications where sharp cut-off is not a necessity

Bandstop Filter Design
Filter specifications:
 Center frequency = 1.75 GHz
 Attenuation at 3.05 GHz at least 30dB
Filter Design implemented: Bandstop filter using quarter
wave resonators and maximally flat response with N=7
 Quarter wave open/short circuited transmission lines
look like series/parallel resonant circuits, so we can
use such stubs in shunt along transmission lies
 Quarter-wavelength sections of line between stubs
act as admittance inverters to convert alternate
shunt to series resonators
 For narrow bandwidths, characteristic impedances
of stubs are difficult to realize
