Toxic Granulation

• manifested by the presence of large granules in the


cytoplasm of segmented and band neutrophils in the
peripheral blood

• Color: dark blue to purple intra-cytoplasmic


granules
• Seen in cases of bacterial infection and often with
other causes of inflammation
Band Neutrophil Toxic Granulation
• commonly found in patients with Sepsis
A life threatening condition where there is a presence of bacteria,
toxins or other infectious organisms in the blood

• have prominent azurophilic granules that contain a variety


of antimicrobial enzymes

• Azurophilic granules (Primary granules)


 most numerous and prominent at the promyelocyte stage
have a major role in both killing and degrading engulfed
microorganisms
