Introduction

• The growing of performances of turboprop aircraft engines and flight

safety, reduction of fuel consumption, of noise level and
maintenance costs represents an international constant
preoccupation both for new and old aircrafts.
• This paper proposes to identify solutions for satisfying the European
and international legal demands
• The installing of turboprop group in aircraft wing nacelle is made
according to design demands resulted from Aviation Regulation CS-
23.
General objectives

Reducing of chemical pollution,

respectively reduction of turboprop
engine fuel consumption

Safety in functioning of nacelle installed

turboprop engine

Reduction of noise pollution

Nacelle Assembly
• The nacelle assembly consists of a completely
dressed engine readily to be installed or removed
from the engine frame attached to wing, cowlings
and systems which connects engine to aircraft
systems
• The main requirement for nacelle design is that it
must be constructed and supported so that it can
resist any vibration, inertia and air loads to which it
may be subjected in operation.
• Nacelle’s design have to assure easy cowlings
removal and installation, access to engine
equipments for maintenance and overhaul and
assure engine ventilation and fire protection
requirements
Engine mounting frame

• The engine mounting system

must protect the airframe from
any undesirable vibrations
• The mounting system uses four
Berry Mounts vibration
isolators and prevents
excessive displacement
• A special technology using an
inert gas pressure control inside
the structure assures best
reliability of engine frame.

total air flow, total pressure drop and by-pass ratio estimate its performances and characteristics as follows:

• Air from flow measurement assy is extracted with a blower  nacelle aerodynamic behavior, lift and drag
which simulates the engine characteristics

 pressures distribution on nacelle for optimum

• After testing modifications will be applied to reach imposed position of auxiliary air intakes
parameters and new tests will be done until necessary.

Solutions
Reducing of chemical
• reducing the weight and drag of the nacelle;
pollution, respectively
• reducing losses in engine flows and oil cooling
reduction of turboprop system;
engine fuel consumption

• achieving of a liable deicing system;

Safety in functioning of
nacelle installed • achieving of a performing engine cooling system
and nacelle venting and reducing the fire risk to a
turboprop engine minimum;

Reduction of noise • use of composite materials;

pollution • noise protection of nacelle cowling;
Nacelle arrangement was proposed according to general requirements of
engine manufacturer, specific standards and regulation experience
gained in the field;
