Preliminary treatment removes materials that can be easily

collected from the raw waste water.
. It consists many processes

SCREENING

 The Effluent stream is screened to remove all large objects like,

stone, hardware material , plastics etc carried in the effluent
stream. This is most commonly done with an automated
mechanically raked bar screen in modern plants but manual bar
screen can also be used.
Bar screen with varying sizes may be used to optimize solid
removals.
The Solids are collected and later disposed in a landfill.

GRIT REMOVAL

 Pre-treatment also include grit channel or chamber where

the velocity of the incoming effluent stream is adjusted to allow
the settlement of sand , grit stones etc. These particles are
removed because they may damage pumps and other
equipment.

Sedimentation :

 Primary clarifier consists of temporarily holding the sewage in a

sludge removal tank where heavy solids can settle to the bottom
while oil, float to the surface. The settled material sludge is removed
by sludge pump and floating materials Oil is removed by Skimmers.
Remaining liquid are discharged or subjected to secondary
clarifier.
Flow Equalization
 There are several different steps in industrial process and therefore
wastewater quality and quantity varies over time. ETPs are usually
designed to treat wastewater that has a more or less constant flow
and a quality that fluctuates within a narrow range. The equalization
tank overcomes this by collecting and storing the waste, allowing it
to mix and become a regular quality before it is pumped to
treatment unit at a constant rate.

OIL Skimmer :

• Oil skimmers are pieces of equipment that remove oil floating on the
surface of a fluid. In general, oil skimmers work because they are made of
materials Polyurethane to which oil is more likely to stick than the fluid it is
floating on.
• The oil skimmer roller is fabricated out of mild steel plates. The roller
is sealed from both sides. The roller is coated with special oleophylic
material, which has the capacity to absorb oil. The roller assembly is to be
mounted in such a way that a part of the roller always remains submerged.
After that Oil is collected in a pit and pumped to underground slope tank.

 SECONDARY TREATMENT

Multimedia Filter :
Multimedia pressure sand filter uses graded sand as the
filter media. The sand shall be graded from course to fine to coarser in the
direction of flow. This is achieved by providing low-density materials like
anthracite as coarse materials on the top of the filter sand.
When the level of oil collected in the oil-collecting dome increases to a
preset level, the interface detector send a signal to the control panel,
which give the alarm to open the valve manually and drain out the oil.
When the level of water in the dome goes up to a preset level, Interface
detector sends the alarm to control panel to close the valve manually.

 SECONDARY TREATMENT

Coalescer / Activated carbon filter

The filtered water emerging from the multimedia pressure filter is sent to a
polishing unit consisting of a coalescer filter or activated carbon filter. As the
filter media is made of materials that have the capacity to attract the
dispersed oil phase in water media. The smaller oil particles rising velocity
is increased by Agglomerating of small globules thus creating larger, faster
rising globules and collected on the top of filter.

Interface detection sends a signal to control panel for open the valves
manually to drain the oil to oil pit.
