 Society, Economy and Politics
Society: Women’s fashion
consisted of: bell bottoms, flowy
shirts, midi skirt, blazers, and
blouses.
Fashion for men during this time
consisted of: Denim jeans paired
with a denim jacket, leather, and
turtle necks. Popular music artists
during this time were: The
Jackson 5, Dolly Parton, The
Beatles, Johnny Cash, and Diana
Ross. In general, this time was
heavily influenced by the idea that
you have the freedom to say, be or
do whatever you want because
you can.
Economy: Due to The Great
Inflation in the 1970’s there
was a lack of economic
growth during this point in
time. This ruined the stock
market which resulted in
almost no profit for anyone.
Politics: During the 70’s a lot
of things rose in Northern
California such as crime, drugs
and prostitution. There was also
a rise in equality for people of
all races, sexualities, and
genders. Some of these
movements consisted of
“Summer of Love” also known
as “The Hippie Movement”
which were both known to be
places where people could
come together and start new
trends, dance and listen to
music.

which follows Geniece and her journey
throughout her four years of college. The
story is set in San Francisco and takes
place roughly around 1968-1972.

a young African American woman as she
grows and thrives, learning from her
mistakes and learning to put herself first.

→ Our diorama was inspired
by The San Francisco Gateway
Arch was established on
October 18th, 1970. The
creator of the structure in San
Francisco was Clayton Lee.
The structure was based on
original ceremonial gates from
Chinese villages. The male lion
stands on the left side, female
on the right.
