Parenting Styles

Malia Galindo
Authoritative Parenting
This kind of parenting is where the
parents have high expectations of
their child while also very responsive
to the child’s needs while also caring
and loving of the kid

Examples
• Listens to the child
• Tries to reason with the child instead
of demanding
• Makes clear limits on behavior
• Consistently applying boundaries
• Earns the child’s respect instead of
demanding it
Autocratic Parenting
(aka authoritarian or dominating parents)

An autocratic parent is where the

parent has high demands and
control for the child but shows no
responsiveness for the child's needs
and also shows no care for the kids
opinions

Example
If a child ask for an additional
snack the autocratic parent would
instantly decline the request
because it would violate the one
snack rule
Permissive Parenting
The permissive parent is the type of
parenting where there are very little
rules and no high expectations of
the child, but there is lots of warmth
and care for this kid

Examples
• Few demands
• Rarely tells the child no
• Parents very loving and nurturing
• The family revolves around the child
• Parents use bribes to manipulate
their child
• Disrespectfulness from the child is
over looked
Unengaged Parenting
(aka uninvolved parents)
Uninvolved parenting is where
there are no high expectations of
the child and also little to no rules at
all. Then the parent shows little or
no care and warmth for child

Example
If watching the young child grab a toy
from another kid the uninvolved parent
would not make any attempt to justify
the child's behavior and neither does
the parent get involved with the
situation
