Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences
Goals:
Geography affects students everyday life. The land they live on
and the resources that they have greatly affect them. In
addition to that it is also important that students know the
geography of the past especially in the times of early United
States
Objectives:
Content/Knowledge:
Students will be able to identify the 13 colonies and give some
information about them and the geography at the time.
Process/Skills:
Students will be able to explain how the human population has
affected the geography of the United States especially the 13
Colonies.
Values/Dispositions:
Students will be able to describe how the 13 Colonies have left a
positive impact on the United States.

Rationale:
The United States has grown and changed over time. It is important for
students to know how the United States has grown and changed over
time. They should understand what the 13 colonies were and how they
have impacted America today.
Standards:

SS.G.1.5. Investigate how the cultural and environmental characteristics of places
with the United States change over time.

Teaching: Students will learn about how the size
of America has grown and changed.
Learning Activity: Students will analyze the size of
the united States today compared to the size of
the 13 Colonies using math concepts they know
and by looking at pictures

Teaching: Students will learn about the 13
Original Colonies.
Learning Activity: Each student will be given 1
Colony to research extensively. They will then
write a poem or story about their assigned Colony
and present it to the class.

Teaching: Students will learn the names of the
Colonies and important facts about them.
Learning Activity: They will then put that
information into a song or a wrap which much
include the names of the 13 Colonies and a bit of
information on each.

Teaching: Students will learn about how people lived in the
13 Colonies including what jobs they did and what
resources they had.
Learning Activity: Students will analyze a picture of the
resources and geography of the United States around the
time of the 13 colonies and the American Revolution. They
will then draw an image of what that same area may look
like today.

Teaching: Students will understand how the 13
Colonies were formed for example how they
acquired the land and what they did with it.
Learning Activity: Students will lay out the
dimensions of the 13 Colonies with blue tape out
side by working as a team and will analyze how
close they got to creating it similar to the 13
colonies.

Teaching: Students will analyze how the
geographical land of the 13 Colonies has
changed over time.
Learning Activity: Students will make a positive
and negative chart of how the human population
has affected the United States, specifically the 13
colonies.

Teaching: Students will learn about the 13
colonies and the geography of them.
Learning Activity: Students will then write a letter
of intent about which colony they would want to
live and why which should include information
about the geography of that colony.

and resources grown in the 13 colonies.

produced today and will create a presentation
about what is different and what is similar about
