How to be a musician

What is Music ?

 Music is, according to the traditional definition of the term, the art of
sensibly and logically organizing a coherent combination of sounds and
silences using the fundamental principles of melody, harmony and rhythm,
through the intervention of complex psycho-psychic processes.
What is Musician ?

 A musician is a person who is dedicated to the creation, interpretation and /


or editing of music, whether professional or not.
What are the types of musicians?

 The musicians can be classified into two major categories: composer and
troubadour.
Musicians Composers

 Anyone who has formal music studies, either in music conservatories or study
centers (universities, institutes, academies), example:

 Orchestra director
 Instrumentalists with formal studies (top performers from 8 to 12 years
depending on the instrument): pianists, violinists, cellists, double bass
players, percussionists, classical guitarists, etc.
 Musicologist (ethnomusicologist)
Musicians Troubadours

 Anyone who does not necessarily have a formal study of music, creates or
composes by instinct or handle a minimum domain of music theory
(workshops, self-taught, etc.), in this group include popular singers and
instrumentalists without formal studies such as:

 Popular guitarists, popular bassists or popular drummers (all instrumentalists


who do not have a higher education, that is to say in conservatories,
universities, institutes, academies).
 It should be noted that there are many instrumentalists of this branch who
are virtuous and have no training.
Steps to be a musician

 Part1 Choose an instrument.


 1.- Choose an instrument that fits your interests.
 2.- Consider starting with the piano.
 3.- Learn about classical instruments.
 4.- Consider some pop or rock instruments.
 5.-Consider playing percussion.
 6.-Play an Electronic instrument.
 Part2 Develop as a musician.
 1.- Practice constantly. 3.- Consider learning to read sheet music.
 2.- Find a good teacher. 4.- Listen to everything.
 5.- Start making your own compositions. 6.-Find your own voice on your
instrument.
 Part3 Take the next step.
 1.- Consider joining an established band.
 2.- Touch in front of people when you are ready.
 3.- Try to start your own group.
 4.- Record your music.
 5.- Commit yourself to the long and difficult road.
