• Origin of Visayan Song
 Spanish colonial rule exposed

That is the 17th century Visayan could
already play Spanish musical
instruments with “notable skill”.
 The Spanish guitar called “sista in
Cebuano, superseded indigenous
string instruments akin to it and
became so popular in the visayas,
particularly in Cebu, has acquired a
reputation not only for guitar players
but for the manufacture of fine
guitars.
other instruments, like the alpa (harp),
also became widely diffused in the
visayas.

The Spaniards also intoduced the


Christmas carol called “Daygon”.
VISAYAS MUSIC
Most Visayan songs or music are written in
duple or triple meter with a simple melody
that is easy to sing. Folk songs like Si
pilemon, pakitong kitong, ili-ili tulog anay,
Rosas Pandan and Matud nila originated
from this region.
The long list of Visayan folk songs
include lullabies, working songs,
harana and children songs.
