Proposed Encoder :
Advantages of Encoder as position sensor:

 In the proposed encoder the number of position sensors

required is only one.

 Here the rotor position information from the encoder acts

as input data for stator pole excitation.

 Also the encoder output can be used to calculate the

speed of the rotor.

 With the use of Encoding technique control over the

duration of excitation of each stator phase is achieved,
whose resolution depends on the number of strips used
in the encoder design.
Work done so far….

• Implemented the basic sensor circuit and

worked on its sensitivity.
• Measured the inductance profile of one of
the stator phase for one revolution and
plotted the appropriate graph.
• designed the optocoupler circuit which is
needed for isolating the low and high
power circuits.
• Designed the microcontroller circuit using
Eagle software on printed circuit board.
• Using MPLAB programmed the coding for
open loop operation and verified the
output.
• Designed the sensor setup required for
providing the necessary rotor position.
• Provided the necessary gate pulse and
checked the working of converter circuit.
• Finally interfaced all the circuits and made
the motor to run using these circuits for
conventional rotor position sensing
technique.
• Verified the encoder logic using single
position sensor for the motor using
breadboard.
