DATA MANAGEMENT
 Partition Values:
• Percentiles- a measure used to indicate
the value below w/c given percentage of
observations fall.
• Quartiles- divides a sorted data set into
equal parts, so that each part represent ¼
of the data set.
• Deciles- the values which divide an array
into ten equal parts.
 What is Quantiles?
• The word “quantile” comes from
the word quantity.
• Unlike mean, median & mode
generally describe the center of
distribution.
• Percentile, Quartile and Decile
illustrate a specific location of the
distribution.
EXAMPLE
Find the quartiles asked in each of
the following:
P25 D7 Q2
The students in a math quiz scored
the following test results:

Order the data from
smallest to largest and
determine the
PERCENTILES (P).
Data in ascending order:

FORMULA:

L=k/100 (n+1)
SOLUTION:

L=25/100 (12+1)
L=3.25
