Design of Transmit/Receive Module Chip For 28Ghz Phase Array
Design of Transmit/Receive Module Chip For 28Ghz Phase Array
System Architecture
We are building a fully integrated 28GHz fourelement phasedarray transceiver in silicon. A phased array is a multipleantenna system
in which beam forming is achieved by varying the relative phase shifts in each antenna element. Signals from all elements add up
coherently in one direction and incoherently in other directions leading to formation of a beam. Electronic phaseshifting enables beam
steering.
• Receiver
The Receiver section of the chip includes two step downconversion path comprising
Lownoise amplifier (LNA)
RF mixer
IF amplifier
Phase rotators
Combining amplifiers
Quadrature Mixer
VCO
In the LO path, the output of the VCO is routed to different elements and can be phase shifted locally by the phase rotators.
• Transmitter
The transmitter utilizes a local LOpath phaseshifting architecture to achieve beam steering
