HOW TO MAKE WOVEN FABRIC

THE WEAVING MASTERPIECE OF LIO - ENDE

• Lio - Ende is center of the Flores Island.

• In each region of Flores the best tradition of
weaving is maintained intergenerally.
• Although increasingly rare but there are still
keeping this tradition.
• There is a noble meaning in every motive and
weaving process.
What is Tie Weaving…?

• Tie Woven is Indonesian woven fabric in the form of cloth

woven from weft or warp thread which previously tied and
dipped into natural dye.
• Looms used are looms that are not machines
• Tie woven can be sewn to be used as clothing and fashion
equipment, upholstery furniture or home interior decorator.
How to make tie weaving…?

Materials needed:
1. Cotton to be processed into yarn
2. Tools for weaving
3. Rope gebang (similar to a coconut leaf)
4. Dye materials
The Steps of making Tie Weaving:

1. Making fine cotton with a bow tool…

2. Spinning the yarn using a tool called “ Ladu”…
3. Rolled yarn or “Ola Woi”
4. Streaching the thread/ yarn or “Dao Goa”
5. Tie rope gebang to the yarn formed in the motifs,
which is characteristic of weaving.
6. Prepare the blue dye is made from “Tarum Leaf” mixed with
“Whiting”…
7. Dipping the yarn in to the blue base color in 3 days…
8. Remove the rope tied to the yarn according to the
desired motif…
9. Prepare the red dye from root of the mengkudu mixed
soda powder.
10. Dipping the yarn in red dye or other colors
according desired motif in 3 days…
11. Dipping the yarn in the oil made from hazelnut oil,
yellow root, betel leaf, pacar leaf, chili and salt to give a
bright color…
12. The soaked yarm is dried in the sun to dry…
13. Arranging the dry yarn on a tools called “Eleseda”.
