Rate Analysis
o The process of arriving at the rate of an
item of work from cost of materials,
labours and other miscellaneous factors is
called Rate Analysis.
Rate analysis for RCC
o We will see the rate analysis for Reinforced
Concrete (RCC) work.
o First step - the estimation of labour,
materials, equipment's and miscellaneous
items for particular quantity of reinforced
concrete.
o The second step - determine the component
of structure for which the RCC rate analysis
is required, as the quantity of reinforcement
steel varies with slabs, beams, columns,
foundation, RCC Roads etc.,
Data Required:
o Estimation of materials
• Cement bags, fine & Coarse agg. Volume, Steel
weight.
o Labour Requirement
• Mason, Unskilled labours, Water carrier, Bar
Bender, Mixer Operator, Vibrator Operator
o Equipment and sundries
• Equipment and other charges, such as water
charges, miscellaneous items, tools and tackles.
o Contractor’s Profit
• An allowance on lumpsum basis.
Materials calculation
 Let us calculate the quantity of materials needed
for RCC of ratio 1:1.5:3 for 1m3.
 The dry volume of total materials required is
considered as 1.52 times the wet volume of
concrete, due to voids present in sand and
aggregates in dry stage.
Cement:
o Volume of cement required for 1m3 of Concrete

𝟏𝒙𝟏.𝟓𝟐
=0.28 m3
𝟏+𝟏.𝟓+𝟑
Materials calculation(cont…)
o Volume of sand required

𝟏𝒙𝟏.𝟓𝒙𝟏.𝟓𝟐
= 0.42 m3 of sand.
𝟏+𝟏.𝟓+𝟑

o Volume of Coarse Aggregate

𝟏𝒙𝟑𝒙𝟏.𝟓𝟐
= 0.84 m3 of coarse agg.

Calculation of Steel Quantity
o Quantity of steel required depends on components
of structure, i.e. slabs, beams, columns,
foundations, roads etc. To estimate the steel
required, there are two methods.
o Method I – With the help of the available drawing
steel weight is calculated by making BBS.
o Method II - assuming the percentage of
reinforcement for different components.
• Slabs = 1.0 % of concrete volume.
• Beam = 2 % concrete volume.
• column = 2.5 % of concrete volume.
• RCC Roads = 0.6% concrete volume.
Materials calculation(cont…)

Lets take example of RCC beam, where

reinforcement required is 2.0% of concrete
volume,
𝟐.𝟎𝟎
weight of steel required = 1x x 7850
𝟏𝟎𝟎

=157.00 kg.
Labour Requirement for 1m3 of RCC
As per the standard schedule of rates
 Mason - 0.37 days.
 One Unskilled labours - 3.5 days.
 One water carrier - 1.39 days.
 Bar bender requirement depends on weight of
reinforcement. Lets consider one bar bender
required for 100 kg of steel as for 1 day.
 One mixer operator - 0.0714 days.
 One vibrator operator - 0.0714 days.
RCC 1 :1.5 :3 Analysis for SLAB 1.00%

Cost of RCC for Given Data = Rs. 15321

Problem for Practice
o Do the rate analysis for Plastering of 20mm,
12mm thick with CM 1:4 for 10m2 and enter
the same in data sheet.
