WHAT IS NSS?
Stands for - NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME
Contributes towards the socio-economic progress of
the country.
It inculcates a sense of dignity of labour.
Provides social service to the society.
Works for improvement of physical environment.
Assists in rehabilitation work of the disabled.
Promotes National Integration & Social Harmony.
Work towards a common goal- “WORLD PEACE”.

STORY OF N.S.S. EMBLEM
The NSS symbol is embossed on the NSS badge.

The Konark wheel in the symbol has eight bars which


represent 24 hours of service.

The RED color in the badge indicates that the NSS


volunteers are full of blood.

The navy blue color indicates that we are to


contribute our share for the welfare of mankind.
OBJECTIVES OF “NSS”
Understand the community in which they work.
Identify the needs and problems of the community.
Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic
responsibility.
Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural
disasters.
Practice NATIONAL INTEGRATION.
WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN NSS?

To serve the society.

To Help people in estimating their emergency needs

To work towards infrastructure improvements.

Coordinating with community for their participation.

Bridging gap between government & people.

To Preserve Human Rights & fight for justice.


Terms of NSS

120 hrs of social service in a year.

Completion of 2 year term.

Attend at least 1 special camp.

Use of Badges is compulsory.


Code of Conduct

 Volunteers shall work under the guidance of the group


leader.

 They shall make themselves worthy of the confidence and


cooperation of the group leader

 A day to day record of their activities should be submitted


to the leader.

 A diary should be submitted to the Programme Officer for


filling the report cards for getting 10 marks by 31st January.

 Volunteers are not allowed to work independently in any


project of their own.

 They should be in an agency/village/slums adopted by the


college NSS unit.

Disaster is a sudden, calamitous event bringing great
damage, loss, destruction and devastation to life and
property.

It may also be termed as “a serious disruption of the


functioning of society.
