What is Hydraulics ?
Hydraulics is a topic in applied science and
engineering dealing with the mechanical properties of
fluids.

On a very basic level Hydraulics is used for the

generation, control, and transmission of fluids in
order to produce some mechanical work or in general
as a part of river engineering.
The basic laws of Hydraulics
Fluid Mechanics provides the theoretical foundation of
hydraulics and focuses mainly on its engineering
applications. The basic laws of fluid dynamics that govern
the working of any hydraulic system are:
 Pascal's Law: It states that pressure exerted anywhere in
a confined incompressible fluid is transmitted equally in all
directions throughout the fluid
such that the pressure ratio
(initial difference) remains the
same. The siphon, Hydraulic jack,
Hydraulic press and Breaking
system for automobiles are some
examples of application of this law. .
 The relationship between pressure, force and area is
given by
P=F/AT
 This relationship is very useful for obtaining a
mechanical advantage.
As per the Pascal’s law the pressure
in a fluid remains the same every-
where. Which implies that the ratio
of force and area must remain
constant. This fact can be used to
lift greater weights with lesser
forces as shown in the figure.
Our Project : The Hydraulic Press
 Our project is based on the same laws that are
mentioned before
Here we are placing the hydraulic bottle
cylinder on the based plate, and the pressing
tool is fixed in the hydraulic piston rod end. The
working table is placed on the top of the
supporting frame. It can be adjusted according
to the workpiece height by adjusting the lock
nuts which is placed at the either side of the
work table.
The hydraulic bottle cylinder is working with the help of supply
of oil from the pumping rod side. Here we have to tighten the
pressure relief valve then to start pumping with help of pumping
rod by pumping, the oil will supply to push the piston upward
direction by this pressing tool will move through it to pressing the
workpiece. By the completing the bending process we have to
release the pressure relief valve then the piston comes it original
position.
Design & fabrication of hydraulic press
The Advantages and Disadvantages of
this Hydraulic Press
Advantages:
 It eliminates complicated parts like hydraulic
cylinder pipe connections and pressure tubes.
 Quite simple.
 Easy maintenance.
Disadvantages:
 Hydraulic fluid is highly corrosive to most of the
aircraft materials.
 If disposed improperly, a hydraulic fluid is an
environmental risk.
APPLICATIONS

It is used forging, clinching, moulding, blanking,

punching, deep drawing, and metal forming
operations
Used in small and large scale industries and
cable wire making industries etc
