The Responsibility for Planning
FINANCIAL PLANNING HELPS US MAXIMIZE OUR LIMITED RESOURCES AND PROTECTS US FROM WASTE OF RESOURCES

How to “Suppose one of you wants

budget?! to build a tower. Will he not
first sit down and estimate
the cost to see if he has
enough money to complete
it?” --Luke 14:28
 The Responsibility for Discipline

FINANCIAL PLANNING REQUIRES

DISCIPLINE TO TRANSLATE OUR
GOOD INTENTIONS INTO ACTIONS
 The Responsibility for Discipline
“And here is my advice about what
Here’s an is best for you in this matter. Last
advice from year you were the first not only to
Paul: give, but also to have the desire to
do so. Now finish the work so that
your eager willingness to do it may
be matched by your completion of it,
according to you means. For if the
willingness is there, the gift is
acceptable according to what one
has not according to what he does
not have.
--2 Cor. 8: 10-12
 The Responsibility for Stewardship
6Remember this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7Each
man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver
8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all

things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in
every good work.
10Now, he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will

also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the
harvest of your righteousness. 11You will be made rich in every
way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through
us, your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
2 Cor. 9: 6-8; 10-11
 The Responsibility for Working

GOD PROVIDES FOR OUR NEEDS

AND THE NEEDS OF OTHERS
THROUGH WORK
 The Responsibility for Working
Work hard for a
living…
7
For you yourselves know how you ought
to follow our example. We were not idle
when we were with you, 8 nor did we eat
anyone’s food without paying for it. On the
contrary, we worked night and day,
laboring and toiling so that we would not
be a burden to any of you.10 For even when
we were with you, we gave you this rule:
“If a man will not work, he shall not eat.”
--2 Thess. 3:7-8; 10
Guidelines Regarding Savings
Rationale
1. Saving for the future shows wisdom
and is demonstrated in God’s
creation. ( Ex. Gen. 4:35 [Joseph]; Prov.
21:20)
2. Saving for the future is responsible
stewardship when designed to meet
both the predictable and
unpredictable needs of the family.
(1 Tim. 5:8)
Guidelines
• Maintain a proper view of ownership.
Remember, all our wealth ultimately
belongs to God. We are managers not
owners. (Luke 16:12 )
• Maintain a proper view of security. We
are to put our trust in the Lord and not
in our investments. (1 Tim. 6:17)
• Beware of impure motives, priorities
and reasons for saving such as anxiety
and hoarding as a result of insecurity
or covetousness. (Luke 12:22-31)
• Decisions concerning future
investments prayerfully - in view of
the of the Lord’s will. (James 4:13-
15)
• Avoid high-risk investments on
get-rich-quick schemes. (1 Tim. 6:9)
• Watch those priorities. Make the
kingdom of God your number one
investment. (Matt. 6:33)
Guidelines Regarding Spending
• Contentment – we need to learn to be
content with what we have. (Matt. 6:19-21;
Heb. 13:5)

• Temptation – be on guard to the

temptations and messages of the world.
(Rom. 12:2)

• Evaluate Purchases
Guidelines Regarding Spending

• Evaluate Purchases
– Can you pay cash or will the
purchase put you in debt?
– Is it a real need or just your want? (1
Tim. 6:9)
– Is your lifestyle commensurate with
your finances?

The Principle of Giving
GOD EXPECTS US TO GIVE
It is more
blessed to
•In Faith give than to
receive
•Purposefully
•Regularly
•Systematically

 Promises for the Generous Giver

OUR GIVING WILL

NEVER BE OUR LACK
 Promises for the Generous Giver

8And God is able to make all grace

abound to you, so that in all things at all
times, having all that you need, you will
abound in every good work. 9As it is
written: "He has scattered abroad his
gifts to the poor; his righteousness
endures forever."
10Now he who supplies seed to the
sower and bread for food will also
supply and increase your store of seed
and will enlarge the harvest of your
righteousness. 11You will be made rich
in every way so that you can be
generous on every occasion, and
through us your generosity will result in
 Promises for the Generous Giver

GOD DOES NOT ENTRUST

TO US MORE WEALTH TO
MANAGE UNTIL WE
PROVE FAITHFUL WITH
WHAT WE HAVE NOW
 Promises for the Generous Giver
10"Whoever can be trusted with
very little can also be trusted with
much, and whoever is dishonest
with very little will also be
dishonest with much. 11So if you
have not been trustworthy in
handling worldly wealth, who will
trust you with true riches?
Luke 16:10-11
 To Whom should we give?
•The Church of Jesus Christ
(1 Tim. 5:17-18).

Tithing (10%) is God’s model in how

to invest (giving) in God’s Kingdom

Tithing opens the floodgates of

blessings from heaven and shuts the
door of curses in our lives.
10Bring the whole tithe into the
storehouse, that there may be food in my
house. Test me in this," says the LORD
Almighty, "and see if I will not throw
open the floodgates of heaven and pour
out so much blessing that you will not
have room enough for it. 11I will prevent
pests from devouring your crops, and the
vines in your fields will not cast their
fruit," says the LORD
Luke 16:10-11
 To Whom should we give?
•Missionaries, Bible teachers
and other workers for the
gospel (Galatians 6:6)

•Those who are in need (Heb.

13:1-2)
Where is Your Treasure?
Does your money control you or
you control the money?
What we treasure is determined by
our perspective or insight to the
real values of life
(Matthew 6:22-23)
 Our Treasures should be in Heaven
19"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on
earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where
thieves break in and steal. 20But store up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and
rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not
break in and steal. 21For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.
22"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes
are good, your whole body will be full of light.
23But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will
be full of darkness. If then the light within you is
darkness, how great is that darkness!
24"No one can serve two masters. Either he will
hate the one and love the other, or he will be
devoted to the one and despise the other. You
cannot serve both God and Money.
Matthew 6:19-24
Ang Kayamanan sa Langit
v19"Huwag kayong magtipon ng mga kayamanan
para sa inyong sarili sa lupa, na dito ay naninira
ang bukbok at ang kalawangd at ang mga
magnanakaw ay nakakapasok at
nakakapagnakaw;
v20kundi magtipon kayo para sa inyong sarili ng
mga kayamanan sa langit, na doon ang bukbok
at ang kalawang ay hindi makapaninira at ang
mga magnanakaw ay hindi rin makakapasok ni
makakapagnakaw.
v21Sapagkat kung nasaan ang iyong kayamanan,
naroon din naman ang iyong puso.
v22"Ang mata ang ilawan ng katawan:
Kung tapat ang iyong mata, ang buong
katawan mo'y mapupuno ng liwanag.
v23Ngunit kung masama ang iyong mata,
ang iyong buong katawan ay magiging
kadiliman. Kaya't kung ang liwanag na
nasa iyo ay kadiliman, anong laki ng
kadiliman!
Diyos o Kayamanan
v24"Walang makapaglilingkod sa dalawang
panginoon, sapagkat kapopootan niya
ang isa at iibigin ang ikalawa; o magiging
tapat siya sa isa, at hahamakin ang
ikalawa. Hindi kayo makapaglilingkod sa
Diyos at sa kayamanan.
The Challenge
1. Am I a slave to money or earthly treasures ? We must
choose between serving money and serving God!
2. Do I sacrifice godly qualities and responsibilities in my
pursuit for earthly treasures? –e.g. A) Clear conscience;
b) honesty, moral character; c) friendships; d) family; e)
reputation; f) God’s glory
3. Do I care more about earthly treasures and money
matters than I do about my relationship with my God?
4. Do I seek from money and earthly treasures (prestige,
power, position, pleasure, possession, etc.) those things
that only God can give? – a) Happiness, real joy; b)
Contentment; c) Peace of mind; d) Security; e) Purpose
or meaning in life
The Truth

1. Our treasures in heaven are permanent (Matt. 6:20)

2. Our treasures on earth are temporary and can be lost.
3. Our treasure cannot prolong life or give security (1 Tim.
7:7)
4. Life is a stewardship and we are each servants of God
who will accountable to Him in the end. Stop thinking
like an owner. Start thinking like a manager!
5. The use of money is a test of our faithfulness (Luke
16:11)
6. Money and its acquisition, if we are not careful, can
become our master (Luke 16:12)
Who is your Master?

A servant cannot serve

two masters. We cannot
serve God and Mammon
(materialism) at the
same time.
"No servant can serve
two masters. Either he
will hate the one and
love the other, or he
will be devoted to the
one and despise the
other.”
Luke 16:13
Our Greatest Treasure is
Godliness with contentment
“Huwag kayong
magmukhang salapi ,
masiyahan na kayo sa
ano mang nasa inyo.
Sapagkat sinabi ng Diyos,
‘Di kita iiwan, ni
pababayaan man’.”
Hebrews 13:5
