Pre-shipment Stage
Labelling,Packaging,Packing &Marking

• Labelling : It is the process of fixing labels on


the export product.Its main purpose is to inform
the customers essentials details in respect of the
product as regards to its quantity, quality. How to
use it and maintain it.
• Many a time foreign buyers insist on a particular
type of label to comply with the regulation of their
countries.
• Different countries have different regulation
regarding labelling of the product.
• Most common requirement is the country of
origin,
• In Germany –indicate quality of material e
g 100% cotton.
• Oman- use of adhesive labels is
prohibited, label should be in Arabic &
English.
• Canada –English & French language
Information on a Label
• Information to satisfy the legal
requirements.
• Instruction for taking care / use of product.
• Dimension- weight,size, thickness etc
• Contents / materials used in the
manufacturing.
• Country of origin,
• Name & Address of manufacturer
• Lot no, Date of Manufacturing/Expiry

• While designing labels preferences of


consumers with regards to colour , numbers
and shape should be kept in mind.
Packaging & Packing

• Packaging : it refers to a container in which


the product reaches the end use consumer .
It is the part of the presentation of the
product and stay till the consumer take it
from the retailers.
• Packing: it is the external protective covering
used for safe transportation of the goods to the
importer.
• Plastics box are normally used for
packaging where as the Fibre boards are
used for packing the plastic boards.
• Packaging plays an important role in
marketing of the product . It is the part of
augmented product, which add new feature
to the basic product and and exceeds the
customer expectations from the product.
• Packaging many a times is the decider in
case of identical product, who will be the
winner. It offer more value to the customer.

• Protection during transportation, storage, display and use.

transporter/buyer

• Shipping Marks: Information necessary to
deliver the cargo to correct destination
• Information Marks: buyers information,
quantity , dimensions , storage information
• Handling Marks: Instruction regarding
proper handling of the boxes during the
transportation chain from warehousing to
importers destination
