country and is a member of the African Union.

 The most popular sports in this country are cricket,

rugby, and football.

 In 1974, The UN General Assembly suspended this

country from participating in its work due to
international opposition to the policy of apartheid.
New Vocabulary
 African Union: a political organization that consists
of 54 African countries founded in 2002. The AU
promotes and encourages unity among African
countries and citizens.

 Apartheid: system of racial segregation that existed

in South Africa from 1948 until the 1990s. Literally
means ‘apartness’
