Downlink Frequency

Selective Scheduling
Introduction
Frequency selective scheduling can help allocate resources efficiently and may lead to
better KPIs. DL FSS feature is implemented on Multan city serving sites (10 eNodeBs)

 DL FSS was implemented on 7th June and reverted because of MME migration issues
 It was implemented again on 25th June
Working Principle
• In LTE, the resource allocation is
controlled by the scheduler

• Since we have many simultaneous users

who share the same bandwidth,
frequency selective scheduling can be
very useful

• In this scenario the scheduler allocates a

certain subset of available frequencies to
each user

• Using measurements from UE, those

frequencies are allocated that have the
most favorable conditions
Methodology & Results
The feature was tested using both OSS statistics and field results which are given below.

• Throughput was on degrading trend because

of continuous traffic increase and after feature
implementation ~ 5% improvement was seen
PRE
• 64 QAM usage % & downlink BLER are also
showing better results

• Other Major KPIs are stable

• Drive test also show promising results and

other major KPIs are stable

Conclusion & Way Forward

After implementation of DL FSS feature significant improvement is seen in DL

throughput. It is suggested to implement it on a larger scale
