CABLE STAYED BRIDGE

A typical cable stayed bridge is a continuous girder with one or more towers
erected above piers in the middle of the span. From these towers, cables stretch down
diagonally (usually to both sides) and support the girder
•This list of the largest cable-stayed bridges ranks the world's cable-stayed bridges by
the length of main span (distance between the suspension towers). The length of the
main span is the most common way to rank cable-stayed bridges.

•However, the size of the main span does often correlate with the eight of the towers
and the engineering complexity involved in designing and constructing the bridge

•Cable-stayed bridges with more than three spans are generally more complex, and
bridges of this type generally represent a more notable engineering achievement even
where their spans are shorter.

Case study
Yamuna Bridge at Allahabad

•Allahabad District is surrounded by the

Yamuna and Ganges rivers to the north,
east and south,
•The adjacent Naini District across the
River Yamuna is the industrial center
Where communication, automobile,
fertilizer, textile and related industry
Companies are located.
•The only traffic route connecting these
two districts was the existing bridge over
the River Yamuna (Yamuna Bridge).

(P17 & P18) (P15,16,19,20)

Six well foundation in reinforce concrete (P15-P20) are provided for this module, with
depth of about 40m in general.
All this foundation are located in deep channel of river with maximum depth of about
22m at HFL.
The foundation level is kept same for all 6 wells, at a depth of 59.0m below
HFL,37.1m below lowest bed level.

1 Stay arrangement
A fan arrangement was selected for cabel
2 Anchorage
Stays are carried inside the girder through a steel
pipe which project 1.8 m above deck and is closed
by a neoprene sleeve fixed with stainless steel
clamping bands. Neoprene dampers are also housed
in the pipe.
At upper anchorage at pylon top the stays
are anchored into steel plates protruding from pylon
by fork socket.
DECK
1 Section
The stayed deck has a simple familiar pre stressed concrete π beam section with low
depth. The main span was 260m.
2 Dimension
• The stayed part of the deck module 1 extending from P16 to P19 has a uniform

• overall depth of 1.5m yielding a slenderness ratio of 173.01

• The deck slab is 25.1m wide and 0.25m thick between beams spaced at 18.2m
centers
• The longitudinal beams are1.37 m deep and connected by transverse cross beams at a
spacing of 5.0 m

CONCLUSION
The design of bridge project has realized the prime objective of promoting
appropriate technology and environment compatibility.
The 600 m deep channel crossing of the project applies to many large river
crossing in India.
A large span of 250 meter could act as an alternative solution to protect our
scared river
