 DEFINITION OF SONG
Song is a short piece of music words. It usually combines
melody and vocals, although some composers have written
instrumental pieces (musical works without words) that mimic
the quality of a singing voice.
The words of a song are called lyrics. Lyrics can include a
series of verses, the longer sections of the song that tell the story,
and a refrain, a short phrase repeated at the end of every verse.
Song can have a simple structure of one or two verse, or a more
complex one with multiple verses and refrains. Songs usually
have a mete or beat. Whether you sing or speak the lyrics, you
can feel a pettern or pulse in the way the words move the song
forward. The word “song” has been around for a very long time,
and it connects back to old English and old norse languages. As
such a history suggest, songs are used for many purpose to tell
stories, express emotion, or convey a belief in faith. Sometimes
they give instruction or help make difficult, repentitive work a
little less tiresome.
 Generic Structure
•Chrorus : The chorus has the same melody and the same lyric each time we hear
it. The lyrics sums up the emotional heart of the song. It’s the section that listeners
will remember and want to hear again and again. Be sure to include your title in your
chorus so listeners know what to call your song . The title is often in the first or last
time, sometimes both
•Verse : The verse all have the same melody but different lyrics. A verse takes
us deeper into the feelings or situation that created the feelings in the chorus.
Because the chorus is repeated three or more times, you can keep it interesting by
giving listeners more information in each verse, something that reveals more about
the chorus and deepens our feelings or understanding of it.
•Bridge : The bridge has a different melody and lyric from any section. It often
provides a peak moment or a turning point in the song . You can use the bidge to
reveal something hidden or add a twist or just come right out and say what you feel
instead of expressing it in images.
•Pre-chorus : Sometimes there’s a short section at the end of the verse which
creates anticipation going into the chorus.
•Hook : The “hook” is the most memorable line in the song . It’s in the chorus
and it’s often the line with the title in it-the first or last line of chorus.

•Rhyme
Like poetry songs often have comes ponding
sounds between the endings of lyrics . For
examples, “song” and “long” rhyme with each
other they have the same vowel sound and the
same final consonant sound.
•Informal Language
Idoms short sentences and phrasal verb are
often used in song.
