4. TIME LINE

• In 1878, the origin of the incandescent lamp dates back to when

Joseph Wilson Swan obtained the British patent for this creation,
even anticipating the patent of the renowned Thomas Alva
Edison.

• In 1879 Thomas Alva Edison was also part of the origins of the
incandescent lamp, in fact, he is considered the inventor (October
21)

• In 1880, Edison was the first to patent a carbon filament lamp

with a longer duration on February 27.

• In 1881, he founded his own company, which was called The

Swan Electric Light Company, where he began to produce
incandescent lamps in large quantities.

• In 2009, The European Union banned the production and

distribution of incandescent bulbs with power exceeding 100
watts, but the manufacturing limit of these lamps continued to
decline until 60 watts

• In 2012, on September 1st, the incandescent bulbs of 40 and 25

watts were taken out the market, that’s the reason why this type
of lamps are increasingly out of use and being replaced by more
efficient ones, such as compact fluorescent lamps, that start from
the so-called LED technology.
