Ms.Swardenski
What is Science?
The goal of science is to investigate and understand the natural world, to
explain events in the natural world, and to use those explanations to make
useful predictions.
Step 1: Observe
Use your senses to obtain
information. Observe
something that you have a
question about
Step 2: Question
Construct questions that can
be answered by scientific
investigations.
Step 3: Form a
hypothesis
Make a statement based on
things that can be tested and
observed.
Step 4: Predict
Explain what you expect to
happen by making a
reasonable guess.
Step 5: Design an
Experiment
Create an experiment that can
test your hypothesis.
Step 6: Conduct
experiment and
collect data
Identify similarities and
differences, as well as
variables that can and should
be controlled for.
If not, Modify your
experiment!!

Step 7: Analyze the

Data
Is the data reliable? Do you
need to adjust your
procedures to control all
variables? Does the data
support your hypothesis?
Step 8: Report your
Findings
Write a conclusion that
summarizes your important
findings and either proves or
disproves your hypothesis.
