ORAL HYGIENE
Understanding of Oral Hygiene

Oral hygiene is an oral treatment with or without the use of antiseptics


to meet one’s personal hygiene needs. Simply oral hygiene can use
clean, warm and mature water. Oral hygiene can be performed
together at other body hygiene treatments such as bathing, brushing
teeth, and others.
The Purpose of Oral Hygiene

Oral cleansing (Oral Hygiene) has the folowing purposeses :

1. Prevent infections

2. Provide comfort in the mouth area

3. Reduce excessive pain

4. Prevent complications
Oral Hygiene Equipment
1. Dessert solution or an antiseptic solution (liquid bethadine)
2. Spatula barrel wrapped with a layer of gauze
3. Face towel
4. Crook
5. Paper towel
6. Tissue
7. Ligther
8. Glass with cold or warm water
Steps to Clean The Mouth
1. Explain the procedure to patient and his family
2. The nurse wash his hands
3. Place a towel and lighter on the bed and utensils table
4. Pull the curtain around the patient’s bed and close the door of the room
5. Set the patient’s position (half sitting)

6. Place the towel under the patient’s face and bend under the chin of the patient, carefully stretch the
patient’s upper and lower teeth with the spatula bar appropriately and gently, clean the patient’s mouth
with a spatel barrel that has been moistened with warm water ordessert, clean the tooth surface, rub the
palate of the mouth, lips, cheeks, rub tongue but avoid gag reflekx. Wet the applicator clean the water
and rub the mouth to wash, repeat as needed.
7. Wash hands after taking action
8. Note the things that are needed (eg : bleeding gums, canker sores, etc)
