• Starbucks makes charitable contributions through the Starbucks Foundation created in 1997

• In 1999, Starbucks started "Grounds for your Garden" to make their business more
environmentally-friendly

• In 2004, Starbucks began reducing the size of their paper napkins and store garbage bags

• In 2008, Starbucks was ranked #15 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's list of
Top 25 Green Power Partners for purchases of renewable energy

Engaging the Community through Community-based
Projects

• The development project CARE International and Starbucks started in 2007


in Ethiopia in the Gewgew Dingete villages in West Harrarghe, Ethiopia
• Provide farmers with better food, safe drinking water
• Community warehouse facilities were built,
• A haricot bean loan scheme and vegetable seed bank were initiated
• Farmers were trained in crop husbandry and marketing.
• These would thus help the farm become a more sustainable business for
each farmer in the village

• Starbucks has emphasized two issues that are preserving and


developing energy efficiently, which it has impacted to climate change
• Starbucks tries to reduce its energy by cooperating with GE Company
• The LED lighting was installed 1,000 stores in U.S.A
Wasted Water
• In October 2008, Starbucks was wasting 23.4 million litres of water a
day

• In June 2009, in response to concerns over its excessive water


consumption, Starbucks re-evaluated its use of the dipper well system

• In September 2009, Starbucks successfully implemented a new water


saving solution that meets government health standards.

• In 2007, The 10% recycled paper cups used by Starbucks are not
recyclable

own reusable cup
