My Village - Descriptive
The name of my village is Cangkringan. It is situated on the
bank of the Mount Merapi. My village is separated from
other villages by the main river on one side and by its
tributary on two other sides. The village is very old and has a
number of special features. Although it faces flood every
year, the geographical feature of the village has not altered.
Another specialty of this village is that there is no Christian
here. All the families are Muslim. However, we still run the
traditional rituals by offering in Ngestiaji. The offering are
meant for the welfare of the Sultan and the people of
Yogyakarat.
Village

A village is a clustered human settlement or

community, larger than a hamlet but smaller than a
town, with a population ranging from a few hundred
to a few thousand. Though often located in rural areas,
the term urban village is also applied to certain urban
neighborhoods. Villages are normally permanent, with
fixed dwellings; however, transient villages can occur.
Further, the dwellings of a village are fairly close to
one another, not scattered broadly over the landscape,
as a dispersed settlement.
