Breathing Apparatus)

m

ñ
Êhe apparatus consists of:
Face Mask
Breathing valve
Regulator unit
Warning unit
Harness Assembly
Air Supply

m

Êhe face mask is fixed to the face by rubber with five
straps. Êhe wide sealing edge of the mask is
pressed lightly against the face by the positive
pressure and follows the contours of the face
giving an effective seal.
Êhe mask is provided with an inner mask and separate
inhalation and exhalation channels which coincide
with channels in the breathing valve. In that way
inhalation and exhalation air will never mixed.

m

Êhe Breathing valve is connected bay bayonet ƛ
coupling. Êhe valve has an extremely low breathing
resistance. It is designed to give a slight positive
pressure of approximately of 200 pa in the mask
compared with the ambient pressure. Êhis eliminates
the risk of toxic gases entering the mask.
Êhe positive pressure is turned on automatically when
the user makes his first inhalation in the mask. Êhis
ensure that there is no way of forgetting to turn the
positive pressure on or that could be accidentally
turned off.

Êhe breathing valve is of the demand type. Air is only

supplied during inhalation. In order to make the
breathing safe even at the hard work the breathing
valve designed to supply at lest 300 l/min of air
without any negative pressure arising in the mask.

Êhe regulator unit consists of pressure reducer and
breathing hose. Êhe plug-in pressure reducer is
balanced piston regulator which independently of the
cylinder pressure produces a constant medium
pressure. Its ensures a maintained positive pressure
in the mask even at low cylinder pressure and
extremely high breathing rates.

’
Êhe acoustic warning device is installed in a special
whistle manifold placed on the pressure gauge hose
as plug-in unit. Êhe warning threshold is seat at 55+
bar.
Êhe unit has a built in pressure reducer which reduces
the cylinder pressure and allows a small constant
flow. When the cylinder pressure reaches 55 bar, the
regulator opens and feeds the audible alarm. Êhe
alarm signal is approximately . 95 dB continues to
sound until the cylinder cotenants are depleted.

Êhe backplate and harness has been designed to
ensure a high degree of comfort to ease the burden
on wearer.

Êhe QS self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) uses
clean dry air compressed in one or two cylinders,
carried on the back. Êhe air is fed to a pressure
regulator which reduce the cylinder air pressure to a
secondary pressure of approximately 7.5 bar. Êhe air
is then supplied to the breathing valve and facepiece
through a medium pressure supply hoes.

m

Êhe duration of the compressed air breathing apparatus
depends on the volume of air in the compressed air
cylinder(s) and the air consumption, which is specific
to the wearer and effected by the work load.

m

xample:
A 6 liter cylinder charged to 300 bar contains
approximately 300X 6 = 1800 liters of free air at
atmospheric pressure. With an assumed air
consumption of 40 l/min the duration would be 45
minutes minus 10% = 41 minutes.

m

Ñote! Êhe warning period is also included in the
previous calculation . Êhe warning period is
approximately 25% of the rated duration time.

Close the positive pressure by turning the black lever
of the breathing valve towards the valve hosing.
Open the cylinder and check the pressure on
pressure gauge.
Open the positive pressure turning the black lever
away from of the hosing. A strong flow air should be
heard.
Êurn off the positive pressure and read off the
pressure gauge. Close the cylinder valve. Êhe
pressure should not fall more than 10 bar during one
minute. Any leakage in excess should be repaired by
a interspiro service certificate holder.

Hold your breath and listen for any leakages. If there is a
fitting leakage check that hair has not come between the
mask and the face and adjust if necessary the head
harness.
Check the positive pressure function by holding the
breath and inserting two fingers between the sealing
edge and the face, a strong air flow should be heard.
